Install Stremio on macOS
What You’ll Do
Install Stremio on your Mac using the official DMG installer.
Requirements:
- macOS 10.11 El Capitan or newer
- Intel or Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3) processor
- Administrator access
- 200 MB free disk space
Installation Steps

Download the DMG file
- Go to https://www.stremio.com
- Click “Download for macOS”
- Save the
.dmgfile to your Downloads folder

Open the DMG file
- Go to Downloads folder in Finder
- Double-click
Stremio-X.X.X.dmg - A window will open showing the Stremio app icon

Drag Stremio to Applications
- In the DMG window, drag the Stremio icon to the Applications folder
- Wait for the copy to complete

Eject the DMG
- Right-click the Stremio disk icon on your desktop
- Click “Eject”

Launch Stremio
- Go to Applications folder
- Double-click Stremio
- If macOS shows a security warning, click “Open” (see troubleshooting below)
macOS Security Warning
First time you launch, macOS may say “Stremio cannot be opened because it is from an unidentified developer.”
How to fix:
- Go to System Preferences → Security & Privacy
- Click the General tab
- You’ll see a message about Stremio being blocked
- Click “Open Anyway”
- Confirm in the dialog
- Stremio will launch
Note
This is normal for apps downloaded outside the Mac App Store. Stremio is safe when downloaded from stremio.com.
Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3) Macs
Stremio has a universal binary that works on both Intel and Apple Silicon Macs. No special steps needed—follow the standard installation above.
Performance is excellent on Apple Silicon Macs.
