Install Stremio on Android TV, Fire TV, and FireStick (2026)
Before You Start
- Use only official Stremio download channels.
- Confirm your TV device has enough free storage.
- Plan to test both player backends if playback stutters.
Note
As of March 3, 2026, Stremio’s official downloads page lists Android TV builds (for example 1.9.8 and 2.1.5 ARM APK entries). Always verify the latest listing before sideloading.
Method 1: Install via Google Play (Recommended)
Google Play Install
- Open Google Play Store on Android TV / Google TV.
- Search for “Stremio” and verify publisher identity.
- Install, then open the app.
- Sign in and allow sync to complete.
- Run a quick playback test with a known-good source.
Method 2: Fire TV or No-Play-Store Devices
Sideload Workflow
- Open stremio.com/downloads on a trusted device.
- Select the Android TV-compatible APK from the official downloads list.
- Transfer/install using your standard Fire TV or Android TV sideload flow.
- Launch Stremio and sign in.
- Disable temporary sideload permissions after install.
Warning
Do not use mirror sites, shortened URLs, or social-media direct APK links. Fake distribution pages are a known community risk.
First Playback Validation
After installation:
- Open one known title.
- Test default player.
- If stutter appears, switch player backend (Media3/ExoPlayer vs VLC) where available.
- Compare results before changing add-ons.
This helps isolate player/version issues from add-on or network issues.
Frequent Android TV Pitfalls
- Outdated app version after long inactivity
- Device thermal throttling
- Too many background apps
- Add-on stack copied from another device without testing
